When purchasing new goods one expects that they work, nevertheless, even with modern automated equipments, it’s impossible to ensure that every produced unit is perfect.

Some units won’t work because of faulty components, some of them because of bad assembly, or because get damaged during handling. It is important, for the producer and his customers, that most of these problems are found at factory level. This is the scope of testing.
The test are carried out at various production phases.

Apart from indicating the presence of defects (the test fails), tests are employed to track the origin of the fault.

Trouble-shooting time depends on board complexity, but mainly on the type of tests one can make. Test quality is a function of the carefulness put on DFT at the design level.

DFT allows to:

• Reduce the production test development time.
• Get a better defect coverage.
• Increase the quality and reliability of the finished goods.

• Reduce the production cycle time.
• Reduce the scraps (boards deemed non-repairable).
